eHealth Week 2016 in Amsterdam was an exciting time for everyone: from the current Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport Edith Schippers to medical start-ups, medical writers and investors. Medix Publishers was also involved in many activities during this week. In this blog we’ll tell you about the initiatives we took part in during the past week.
At Tuesday June 7 we were present at Startup2scaleup in the Marin Establishment Amsterdam. This event, organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, was the kick-off for eHealth Week 2016 and was all about helping digital health start-ups to scale up.
Minister Edith Schippers started the day by telling that during the next four years twenty million euros will be invested in eHealth. For this so-called ‘FastTrack eHealth-intitiative’ the Minister counts on cooperation between the private and public sector. She also advocated for the patient to be the main focus and for a better connection between patient and doctor. “Healthcare needs innovation to connect people and eHealth can offer solutions”, said Schippers.
During the rest of the day patients and professionals presented their ideas to investors in the hope of finding new business partners. The finalists of the Hacking Health and Sustainable Healthcare Challenge initiatives presented their innovative ideas. Also Philips presented their own health challenge and Rabobank provided several investment possibilities. Last but not least, Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands gave a tip on how to provoke change in the health care sector. “Try to listen”, he said in a live discussion with Erik Gerritsen, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
eHealth Week 2016
On June 8 and 9, Medix was present at the eHealth Week 2016 at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. This event is considered to be the most important eHealth event in Europe. Over 2000 international experts gathered to share their knowledge on the digitalisation of healthcare.
For Medix, the highlight of this event was a personal interview with Minister Edith Schippers for MedZine News, the medical news app for healthcare professionals. The interview (in Dutch) can be found in the app, web app and at www.medzineapp.com.
Our team of medical editors was present at the yearly event ‘Bessensap’ at Friday June 10. At Bessensap journalists, scientists and science communicators get together to discuss the newest insights on science communication. Attending this event and speaking to colleagues and scientists helps our editors to stay up to date when writing for expert reviews, websites and other publications.
Medix literally crossed the finish of eHealth Week at the Zuidas Run on Sunday June 12. Representing MedZine News we ran for the charity Making More Health, together with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Ashoka. Making more Health combines social and business values to identify new and better ways of improving health globally for individuals, families and communities.
Over 5000 people joined the Zuidas Run, including 233 businesses. In beautiful orange t-shirts with the MedZine News logo printed on the arm, we finished the 4 mile run. As icing on the cake, all the money that was raised from the application fees will be donated to the VUmc for research on paediatric cancer. €12,703 well spent!
